The company name, The Elusive Spondulix, may have raised your sesquipedalian curiousity.
No don't run for your 'Funk & Wagner', let me elucidate.
Obviously, Elusive means hard to find or locate; Spondulix, the word people
always question me about at coin shows, is neither latin nor greek. I can't speak any language
other than english. Spondulix is a word which entered the english language from American slang
of the 1800's. During this time African and West Indies Cowry-Shell money, made of gold, was on
display at the Philadelphia Mint.
Referred to as Spondu, the slang, Spondulix, eventually entered the
english language as another word for coin or money. The word has also been spelled ending both
with Lics and Licks, but the Lix ending is the more generally accepted spelling.
So much for the name, now what about the company. Well as owner, now in my 20th year as a full time coin dealer,
and preceded by my years in school as a collector, I have devoted my professional career,
and most certainly, a major portion of my life to numismatics.
For a number of years I was a contributor to both the Redbook and Bluebook of U.S. coins.
Thereafter switching over in the last couple of years to concentrate on the Blackbook.
As with most professional coin dealers who have done numbers of regional and
national shows and auctions over the last twenty years, much of the activity centered
around wholesale trades, and these I actively participated in.
However since 1990 I have also maintained an on going retail coin store here in Union,
NJ. (We've included a map should anyone care to drop by). We're located at 954A Stuyvesant
Ave., a short distance from the intersection of Morris and Stuyvesant in the center of Union.
All visitors are welcome.
We are affiliated with most of the major numismatic organizations, PCGS, ANA, ANACS,
FUN, and the Numismatic Literary Guild to name but a few.
We have long looked forward to developing an on line presence. Now that this has become a reality,
you as a collector, can be assured of dealing with legitimate professionals.
